It’s a Fingerprints reunion of friends celebrating the holiday season.
Featuring: Shelley Carrol, Cheryl Jones, Brad Leali, and Roy Machado along with special guests Mark Harper, and Kyle Turner.
Shelley Carrol @shelleycarrol
Shelley Carrol is a UNT Jazz Studies graduate who performed in the One O’clock Lab Band and went on to tour with the Duke Ellington Orchestra for over 25 years. He is a “first call” Texas Tenor who regularly shares the stage and studio with the likes of Gary Clark, Jr., Kirk Franklin, Sheryl Crow, Houston Jazz Orchestra, Daybreak Express and others. Carrol has also released four CDs as a leader. They include his debut With Members of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, A Distant Star and Gentle Friend. He is currently touring in support of his latest CD, I Heard That. Shelley teaches privately in Dallas and his native Houston, Texas.
Dallas native Cheryl Jones has sang on stage productions and concerts throughout the U.S. including, Shelley Garrett’s Beauty Shop. Cheryl is daughter of the late legendary blues artist James Lynn Marsh. Her vocal style has been compared to the likes of Phyllis Hyman, Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin. She can be heard on Fingerprints Summertime music CD and continues to be a mainstay in the DFW gospel scene.

Mark Harper is a seasoned guitarist / performer and multi-platinum award winner. He has performed with a “who’s who” in contemporary music. That list includes Tower of Power, Kirk Whalum and Yolanda Adams. His debut CD The Mark Harper Project gained critical acclaim from both artists and critics alike. It features vocalist D-Mac and the late bassist, Wayman Tisdale.

Brad Leali was an original member of Fingerprints back when the group was formed. He later served as musical director for Harry Connick Jr. and played with the who’s who in jazz during the 1990’s. After returning to Texas Brad is a professor of Jazz Saxophone at the University of North Texas. He still maintains a busy performance schedule with artists such as Lyle Lovett, New York Voices, and The Kennedy Center Honors Band. His rich alto sound highlights Fingerprints debut CD.

Frederick Nichelson is a Dallas area musician/producer with over 25 years of professional experience. Nichelson hails from the rich music tradition of Memphis, TN. He is co-founder and leader of the jazz/soul group Fingerprints and its parent company Nichelson Entertainment. Nichelson has also served as manager for other artists including Shelley Carrol, Memphis Soul Live, and Kyle Turner. His South Memphis Music record label has over 20 releases and its artists perform over 500 shows per year. The Texas Smooth Groove was formed by Mark Harper and Frederick Nichelson. The original goal was to galvanize a collective of like-minded players who strive to promote Smooth Jazz and Soul music from Texas.

Houston saxophonist, Kyle Turner has been a mainstay in the Texas music scene for over three decades. After attending Jackson State University, he began touring with Luther Vandross and Johnnie Taylor. Turner then began to focus on his own career as a leader in Austin, Texas. It was there he held residency at the top clubs on 6th Street. His CDs It’s Time, Sincerely Yours, and Wrapped Tight all garnered chart success and led to concerts and recordings with Marion Meadows, Kirk Whalum, Kim Waters, and many other artists. When not leading his own band, Kyle can be heard on stage with Award Winning, multi-genre artist Regina Belle. Kyle’s soulful sound has been heard all over the world and continues to be a Texas treasure.
